“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” (2Cor 1:20 ESV)
Yes! What a wonderful word this can be if it is in response to the right question. "Will you marry me?" "yes"! "Have I been approved?" "yes". "Did I get the job?" "yes!" "Did you pass your test?" "Yes" It has become part of our vernacular to simply say, "yessssss" when we are expressing pleasure at a particular turn of events. What a strong statement Paul makes when he says that all of the promises of God find their "yes" in Him, that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Will God supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory? "yes!" How? "by Christ Jesus." Can I do anything that I ought to do? "yes" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Has God forgiven me of my sins? YES!, because the Lord Jesus Christ has paid for them by His blood! Will God guide me and give me wisdom if I acknowledge Him? YES, because Christ has been made by God to me Wisdom! Will God hear and answer my prayer? "YES" because the Lord Jesus Christ is on the right hand of the Father right now making intercession for me! Will God fulfill every promise to those who are in the Lord Jesus Christ? YES! The answer is YES, and there is no reluctance in it at all! "Father, thank you for your promises, and thank you that they are yes in Christ! May we give you thanks and glory for every time you keep your promises to us!" |

I am going through some stressful times pretty much just like everyone else. But the reason that I write about suffering is not because of my present experience, but because of where I happen to be reading in my Bible right now. I follow a Bible reading plan, that gets me through the Bible in a year. In my daily readings there is a passage from the Old Testament, one from The New Testament, as well as one from Psalms, and Proverbs. I find it very helpful, and usually the Lord speaks to me as I go through the passages.

“Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and he who testifies for me is on high. For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.* And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in* my flesh I shall see God,” (Job 16:19; 19:25-26 ESV)
Perhaps no one (with the exception of the Lord Jesus Christ) who has ever lived has endured more suffering than Job. His suffering was sudden, comprehensive, and varied. He didn't just suffer physically, but also financially, mentally, and emotionally, and in every way. |
